Israel’s Water Industry: A Stream of Innovation

Israel is a semi-arid country with little natural water resources. Nevertheless, Israel reached 8% in NRW and reuse more than 86% of its wastewater for irrigation, and was one of the first countries to develop RO desalination on a large scale.

These successes were brought by technologies and strong R&D and Know-how. Now the Israeli Water Industry includes about 130 manufacturing firms.

Numerous firms have reached international recognition, and have become leaders in their field such as IDE Technologies, one of the pioneers of Innovation in Desalination. Other Israeli giants such as Amiad Water Systems a leader in filtration technology, Arad Group a leader in Water Metering, Bermad and Plasson experts in Water flow solutions are among the companies known Internationally.

Some consolidation took place within the Israeli Industry in recent years as well as M&A (among others Dupont acquired the Israeli company **Desalitech).**

Furthermore, Israel being a start-up nation has a vibrant ecosystem with innovations in the water sector which includes all the solutions to treat Water and Wastewater, manage it, and deploy it rapidly in emergency situations.

Most of the Israeli companies are active in many segments and cater mainly to the municipal market as well as the industry. However, other companies specialize in emergency solutions and water transportation, Water Safety, and Security which includes also solutions to secure the Water Infrastructure.

However, the fastest growth is in the use of digital technologies and accounts now for a big part of the Management & Monitoring Solutions using AI as a predictive tool for monitoring the network**.** Many of these solutions can be most relevant to solving the problems linked to the increased effect of climate change on world water scarcity.
