Session 3: Roundtables - Daisy Lawless - Writer & Producer

Daisy Lawless is a writer and producer primarily focused on animated series and genre film. Her writing and directorial debut was the documentary Edith Gibson Has 3000 Dolls. In 2022, Daisy received a feature film seed grant from the NZWG for her menopause revenge thriller Morag. She also has experience writing on spec for Mukpuddy’s The Drawing Show and Be With Zee.

Daisy led her first writers' room as showrunner with development funding from NZOA for her original animated series The Ruffian. Aimed at audiences aged 5–7, the show explores how good behavior can be modeled by one child and passed on to another, effectively teaching the skills needed to build friendships and find inner stability.

She is also de_veloping an adult animated series titled Wendy & Wydon, a feminist take on Beavis & Butt-head that satirizes the pitfalls of radical feminist libertarianism, set in a semi-rural Catholic high school.
