Session 5: Roundtables - Andrea Kahukiwa - Writer & Producer at Adrenalin Group

I’m the writer/producer for Adrenalin Group, a  production company that has a long history of creating bold, imaginative scripted and factual content for rangatahi, tamariki and general audiences. 

I’m driven to make stories for tamariki and rangatahi especially those that elevate te reo Māori and take it to the world.

Right now, I’m in production on Island of Mystery Season 3, an animated adventure series for tamariki (delivered in English and Te Reo Māori) and Kupu X, a new live-action mystery aimed at rangatahi for Whakaata Māori. 

Both series thread te reo me ōna tikanga Māori through storylines and character arcs, keeping it real for local audiences and compelling to the world.

My development slate includes:

• Te Wā o Moemoea, an animated historical drama anthology for Whakaata Māori that brings pivotal moments from our past to life, through a rangatahi lens.

• Flic Flac, a high-energy animated action series co-produced with Pike Salto and Screen Australia.This series will feature characters who speak te reo Māori and Gumbaynggirr.

• But Is It Against the Law? A genre-bending comedy that mixes live action and animation aimed at an older rangatahi audience.

As māmā to reo Māori-speaking tamariki, I’m driven to create content that reflects their world, and stories while striving to deliver content that holds its own on the global stage.
