From Projects to Portfolio: What ATMP-PIT Teaches Us About Accelerating Advanced Therapies
ATMP-PIT was launched to address a key challenge in advanced therapies: how to move beyond isolated projects and create a more coordinated, collaborative and portfolio-driven approach to innovation. This session will celebrate the achievements of the programme while focusing on its broader legacy for the Belgian ATMP ecosystem. Rather than presenting individual work packages, it will highlight a selection of the most valuable assets, tools, expertise, infrastructure outputs, collaboration models and ecosystem resources generated through ATMP-PIT. Partners will also share their experience of working within a portfolio model: what created value, what proved difficult, where flexibility was needed, and how programme-level coordination helped reduce silos, build expertise, strengthen collaboration and increase international visibility. The discussion will then look forward. What should the next generation of ATMP programmes retain from ATMP-PIT? What should be done differently? And how can the capabilities and networks created through the programme support the next phase of Belgium’s advanced therapies strategy? By connecting ATMP-PIT’s achievements with ATMP 2.0 and future Belgian and European initiatives, the session aims to position the programme not as an endpoint, but as a foundation for a more coordinated, visible and competitive ATMP ecosystem.
