About

Baudica was formed to develop high-speed data transceivers of any kind: wireline/SerDes, optical, wide-band RF/satelite, that leverage high-speed analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue data converters.

The founder has around 20 years of experience designing such converters and transceivers based on them. Created the field of coherent optical transceivers with Fujitsu, helped a struggling converter design programme at Huawei and built from scratch and led a new programme and a team designing such converters at Nokia. Now he is fully committed to developing this technology further at Baudica, whilst addressing a broader market.

Baudica is currently one person - the founder. We are looking for additional funding to cover the cost of a test chip tapeout, CAD tools and salaries of engineers - as small, very experienced team is ready to join when the funding is available.

Development of a prototype has already started, using self-funded (~£150k budget) tools and technology, supported by partner CAD/technology vendors - we have received very significant discounts for commercial-use license based on our past credibility.

The first prototype is aimed at non-coherent optical communication links that minimise reliance on expensive optical devices, like Mach-Zehnder modulators, drivers or TIAs. This is a good platform for developing the underlying technology (data-converters, PLL, DSP, SerDes) that can be later re-purposed or ported to other applications and technologies.

Expected project duration: 9-12 months to tapeout. 18-21 months total to silicon validation results. Development of production devices expected to follow customer interest and will likely start shortly before the prototype tape-out in ~9 months.

Larger scale product development projects targetting specific applications, like 448G SerDes in newest available technology, possible but require funding beyond the scope of the ACT programme.
