Forum 1 - Mexico: USMCA and the Modernised EU–Mexico Agreement: Implications for German Trade and Investment

Kategorie:Regional Forum (English)

For German companies already active in Mexico, as well as those considering future investments, the upcoming review of the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) and the Modernised EU-Mexico Global Agreement could redefine the business environment. Together, both frameworks strengthen Mexico's position as a strategic hub for production, innovation and exports, creating new opportunities to expand operations, diversify markets and build more resilient supply chains.

With preferential access to both the North American and European markets, a strong industrial base and growing integration into global value chains, Mexico offers significant opportunities for German companies already operating in the country. At the same time, new areas of cooperation in digital trade, public procurement, clean technologies and resilient supply chains are opening additional avenues for growth.

However, these opportunities also come with important challenges. Rising geopolitical tensions, increasing protectionism, evolving rules of origin, industrial policy shifts and greater pressure to build resilient supply chains are reshaping the global business environment. Companies operating in Mexico will need to adapt to a more complex and less predictable trade landscape while maintaining competitiveness across both North American and European markets.

This forum will explore how German companies can leverage Mexico's unique position between two major economic regions and capitalize on the opportunities emerging from a rapidly evolving global trade landscape.

Moderation: Melanie Vogelbach, Managing Director International Economic Policy, DIHK

  • Martin Toscano, CEO Evonik & President AHK Mexico

  • Carlos Gutierrez, Head of Government & External Affairs, BMW Group Mexico
