Forum 2 – The Andean Region in Transition: Political Dynamics and Strategic Business Opportunities

Over the past two years, an intense electoral dynamic has shaped the political landscape in the Andean region, leading to significant shifts in countries' economic and regulatory orientations. 

These processes have redefined the political balance and impacted the investment climate and opportunities for the private sector. For instance, Bolivia has moved away from nationalist economic policies, opening the door to greater private capital participation and the potential revitalisation of strategic sectors, particularly mining and natural resources. Meanwhile, Venezuela is navigating a complex yet evolving scenario, with ongoing efforts to introduce reforms that foster investor confidence, including legal guarantees and greater transparency in key sectors. 

Colombia and Peru are in the midst of electoral processes this year, and the decisions made by the incoming governments will be pivotal for the business environment. Meanwhile, Ecuador continues to navigate the delicate balance between political stability and persistent economic challenges under Noboa's leadership. In this context, the Andean subregion is being reconfigured within the United States' international strategy, and relations with actors such as China are being redefined. This creates both risks and opportunities for new strategic partners, particularly from Europe. 

The region also faces significant structural challenges, including deficits in infrastructure and frameworks, and limited integration into global value chains. Nevertheless, there are concrete opportunities for companies with the necessary investment capacity, technology and vision. Sectors such as energy, mining, technology and infrastructure offer significant development potential. Closing the existing gaps requires capital, expertise and management models. 

This forum aims to analyse ongoing political transformations and their economic implications, and to identify and discuss strategic opportunities for businesses, particularly for German companies, in the sustainable development and modernisation of the Andean region.
