The mission of the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) is to reduce the social and economic burden of poverty-related diseases in developing countries, in particular sub-Saharan Africa, by accelerating the clinical development of effective, safe, accessible, suitable, and affordable medical interventions for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, neglected infectious diseases, lower respiratory tract infections, diarrhoeal diseases and infectious diseases of epidemic potential, including Ebola and COVID-19. EDCTP is supported by the European Union under Horizon 2020, its Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

About me

  1. Chair of IRD Global.- Established in 2004 IRD Global is a proudly Southern rooted, evidence based public health research and implementation organization working in the domains of Mother and Child Health, Infectious Diseases, Mental Health and Global Surgery. IRD has run programs in around 20 countries in Africa and Asia, with a current major focus on Pakistan, Bangladesh and Southern Africa. Our approach is centered on translating and evaluating research innovation into impactful, scalable public health interventions.

  2. Co-founder/Director of biotech/healthtech/pharmatech companies in tissue engineering (cardiac valves and living grafts), in rapid diagnostics, and in treatment of advanced cancers (allosteric modulation of integrins).
