The mission of the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) is to reduce the social and economic burden of poverty-related diseases in developing countries, in particular sub-Saharan Africa, by accelerating the clinical development of effective, safe, accessible, suitable, and affordable medical interventions for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, neglected infectious diseases, lower respiratory tract infections, diarrhoeal diseases and infectious diseases of epidemic potential, including Ebola and COVID-19. EDCTP is supported by the European Union under Horizon 2020, its Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

About me

Montserrat joined EDCTP in September 2007. As Senior Project Officer, she is the focal person for the malaria portfolio and oversees and monitors a large portfolio of multi-country grants in the area of malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis research implemented in resource-limited settings. In addition, she also manages and oversees calls for proposals, from grant application, management of the peer-review process, etc. to post-award evaluation. Montserrat has a personal interest in clinical research uptake into policy, and access to health innovations in low- and middle-income countries.

Montserrat holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Friedrich Miescher Institut (FMI)/University of Basel, Switzerland. Her post-doctoral research focused on Biomedical Immunology and Haematology at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL-Heidelberg) in Germany and the Erasmus University of Rotterdam (Erasmus-MC) in the Netherlands, respectively. Prior to joining EDCTP, Montserrat worked in the scientific publishing sector at FEMS, TU Delft (Netherlands), where she was responsible for the manuscript management and peer-review process of two international scientific journals.
