About me

Biography

As a distinguished Ugandan scientist and Fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences, I have dedicated over 30 years to advancing scientific research, innovation, and leadership. My expertise in infectious and zoonotic diseases has shaped national science policy and governance, contributing to Uganda's growing research ecosystem.

I have served as Deputy Executive Secretary at the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) and Director of Science, Research, and Innovation at the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, where I spearheaded the development of Uganda’s research regulatory and quality assurance systems. Through EDCTP grants, I strengthened the capacities of National Ethics Committees and Regulatory Authorities, improving clinical research oversight and the use of medicinal products and technologies.

Currently, as an Associate Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at Busitema University, I am committed to mentoring and supervising postgraduate students, shaping the next generation of scientific leaders in Uganda.

Beyond national contributions, my influence extends globally. I have participated in high-level international initiatives as a member of the ISC Expert Group for the Biological Weapons Convention, a WHO Technical Advisor on Dual-use Research, and a key contributor to the EU CBRN CoE Project 99 (BIOCAP-ECA).

My career is built on the pillars of scientific excellence, policy development, and capacity building, ensuring Uganda remains at the forefront of research and innovation. Through collaboration and knowledge-sharing, I strive to advance impactful solutions for infectious disease control and scientific governance in Africa and beyond.
