About me
My name is Dr. Abdissa Biruksew Hordofa, a recent PhD graduate in Tropical and Infectious Diseases, committed to uncovering malaria’s hidden barriers to elimination. My pioneering research introduced “Occult Malaria”—exposing undetected transmission among schoolchildren and vulnerable groups in Ethiopia. By identifying critical gaps in diagnostics, surveillance, and equity, I provide global programs with evidence-based strategies to refine elimination efforts. I also analyzed the spatiotemporal dynamics and epidemiological modeling of malaria trends over the past decade in Jimma Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia.
As a Medical Parasitologist (MSc) and Medical Laboratory Technologist (BSc), I bridge research and action—pinpointing asymptomatic reservoirs, systemic roadblocks, and silent transmission cycles that sustain malaria.
To further explore my potential in malaria research, I am eager to continue as a Postdoctoral Researcher—delving into the new biology of the malaria parasite, a field that demands fresh perspectives. I am dedicated to turning science into impact through research, teaching, and advocacy. Partnering with communities, policymakers, and global health stakeholders, I push for equitable, sustainable solutions.
“To eliminate malaria, we must first illuminate the invisible.”
