About

The KABSOM Research and Journal Club is a student-led initiative committed to cultivating a robust research culture among medical students through a "do-as-you-learn" framework. Our mission is to empower students with practical research skills, fostering critical thinking and innovation in addressing pressing health challenges.

In line with this mission, we are launching four student-led research projects commencing in August 2025, focusing on:

Neonatal Jaundice: Investigating the prevalence, risk factors, and management outcomes of neonatal jaundice in rural healthcare settings.

Traditional Septic Cuts in Children: Exploring the cultural practices, health implications, and potential interventions related to traditional septic cuts done usually on chests of children in respiratory distress in Kigezi Region.

Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Assessing the use if AI by health workers in our settings. The knowledge, practices and attitudes.

Each project has a group of 5-8 undergraduate medical students working on it. To enhance the quality and impact of these projects, we are seeking partnerships with institutions and individuals possessing advanced research experience. Specifically, we are looking for:

Mentorship: Experts who can provide guidance throughout the research process, including study design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings.

Technical Support: Assistance with methodological approaches, statistical analysis, and the utilization of research tools and software.

Capacity Building: Opportunities for workshops, seminars, and training sessions to build the research competencies of our student members.

We particularly welcome partnerships with entities that can offer funding or resources to support these research endeavors. Collaborations that facilitate access to research networks, publication avenues, and platforms for presenting findings are also highly valued.
