On May 26th, the day before the 2015 SPLC Connect, the leading SPLC purchasing members organized a buyer-supplier matchmaking event with the help of b2match. The Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the transition to a sustainable future through sustainable purchasing. With SPLC Connect, SPLC aimed to introduce and foster connections between suppliers and buyers who are both dedicated to finding and growing through sustainable, environmentally-friendly solutions.

By hosting the business networking event the day before the summit, attendance to the summit itself was boosted. As Cuchulain Kelly, one of the main organizers of the event, reported, “Several small and local businesses who thought they could gain business from the event signed up for both SPLC Connect and the SPLC Summit.”

With 85 professional participants in the private, public, and nonprofit fields from three different countries, the general atmosphere of the matchmaking event was described by Kelly as “lively, energetic, and positive.” Of the participants, 79 engaged in over 300 bilateral meetings, organized prior to the event through the b2match web platform. In these meetings, participants discovered opportunities to create support networks, developed valuable business connections, and exchanged innovative ideas to improve their field.

In addition to the one-on-one meetings, SPLC Connect offered Roundtable Discussion sessions, which were thirty minute topical conversations between upwards of twelve event participants. Topics for these discussions focused on sustainability through environmental and social responsibility - both from the purchaser and supplier perspectives. One particularly energetic topic of discussion examined lifecycle assessments, which promised purchasers the ability to take into account the sustainable impacts of a product throughout its entire lifecycle. Participants in this session considered the promises and challenges of conducting such assessments.

When asked how b2match assisted with the organization of such a vibrant networking event, Kelly stated that the software helped to manage the preparations of SPLC Connect in every single sense. “It is a very robust tool.”
